Instructions for Regulating Timekeeping

Congratulations on your new Grandfather Clock!

Most Grandfather clocks require regulation when they are new, or in a new environment. The regulation process is the responsibility of the customer, as it is a process that must be followed until the clock is keeping the correct time.

Please, follow these 3 easy steps:

1. Choose a time of day that will be most convenient for you to get to the clock each day.

2. To begin the regulating process, set the clock to the correct time using the minute hand.

3. Twenty-four hours later, determine the number of minutes fast or slow that you clock is running. At the very bottom of your pendulum, there is a nut on a threaded rod. This is called the regulating, or adjusting nut. When you have determined the number of minutes your clock is off, hold the pendulum bob in one hand (it is best to wear a cloth glove or use a soft cloth), using your other hand, with your thumb nail facing you, rotate the nut to the right to speed the clock up, or to the left to slow the clock down. Two turns of the nut will adjust the time approximately 1 minute in 24 hours. For example, if your clock is 2 minutes fast, you will need to turn the nut 4 turns to the left. If your clock is 2 minutes slow, you will need to turn the nut 4 turns to the right. ( NOTE: Turning the nut to the right moves the bob up, causing the clock to run faster. Turning the nut to the left moves the bob down, causing the clock to run slower.)

This process should be followed each day until you come to the clock and the time is correct.

*Your Grandfather Clock should be professionally oiled/maintained at least once every two years.
